Threads, the anti-Twitter social network, is official: here's how it works

Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has issued a significant challenge to Twitter with the launch of its new app, Threads. This bold move comes at a volatile time for Twitter, which has recently faced a number of problems, including outages, layoffs and a declining valuation, since Elon Musk took over. We see like it works.

Instagram presents Threads, the new social network that goes hand in hand with the first one, and which promises to destroy Twitter. How does it work

Threads is a social network connected to users' Instagram accounts and. offers a real-time platform for text posts up to 500 characters, photos and videos up to five minutes of duration. Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, sees an opportunity to compete with Twitter due to its volatility and unpredictability under Musk's leadership. In fact, the changes of the chirping social network in the last period have been worrying: from paid accounts to hallucinating limitations.

In this regard, unlike Twitter, Threads does not impose temporary limits on the number of tweets users can view per day, a move that has led to significant backlash from users of the other social network. Also, Threads offers customizable profiles independent of their Instagram accounts and users can automatically follow the same users they follow on Instagram. Meta's challenge to Twitter comes at a time when Twitter is having a tough time under Musk's leadership. Since Musk took over in October, Twitter has experienced outages, layoffs and a decline in rating. Meanwhile, competitors like Mastodon e bluesky Social (abroad more than in Italy) have gained attention as alternatives to Twitter.

In any case, the interactive functions are the classic ones: it is possible Like, comment and share other users' posts. It will be possible to share posts in Instagram stories, as well as the possibility of sharing a post, in the form of a link, on any other platform. For now, Threads does not have a Hot Topics or Trending Topics section, which should be left for a future update.

Threads is currently available on the Apple App Store and is featured on the Play Store for Android. However, for various reasons related to its "legality" in terms of privacy, it cannot be downloaded and use it in Europe. We are awaiting official communications from Meta in this regard.
