OnePlus 8 series: no Widevine L1 after the latest update

The update OxygenOS 11.0.3.3 OEM for the OnePlus 8 series seems to have messed up the settings for the viewing again HD streaming content. Many users of OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8T complain that they have lost the Widevine L1 security level. After the update, it dropped to Widevine L3. The same set of problems was came to light as early as May 2020. It was first spotted in the OxygenOS 10.5.5 build and surfaced again after months away. What's happening?

Still problems with Widevine L1: the OnePlus 8 series is cursed given the bug that has been going on since May last year

As we know the certification Widevine L1 is a kind of key that allows the device to view streaming content in HD resolution. So let's talk about movies on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and the like. Without Widevine L1, you get stuck at 480p resolution, which is not exactly the best. This happens when instead of having the L1, the device remains set to L3 (in a nutshell). Apparently the problem that was first found in May of last year re-emerged today.

According to reports (Forum OnePlus e reddit) users are having problems receiving the update with number of build 11.0.3.3. Better to say: starting from the update in question. Users with the 8T model report the same problem but on build number 11.0.5.6. Users have tried several workarounds to restore Widevine to L1. Some have cleared Netflix cache and storage and restart the app. For devices under warranty, others have chosen to go to the service center to apply the patch. Apparently this only worked.

OnePlus did not respond and did not even recognize the bug. On the forum, users are encouraged to report the problem and to await the arrival of the next OTA.
