Now you can switch to MIUI Beta ROM without unlocking Bootloader

The interface MIUI Xiaomi is among the most popular and popular Android skins in the world with over 200 millions of active users worldwide. The particularity and beauty of this ROM also lies in the fact that there is a beta version of the interface that is updated twice a week: in particular, a closed beta released every Tuesday and the beta is published every Friday. When a Xiaomi device is purchased, of course we find the MIUI in Stable version and many want to try the new features in the beta ROM, such as for example the new MIUI 10 that has not yet been released in Stable version.

Now you can switch to MIUI Beta ROM without unlocking Bootloader

To do this, the various users must use the Recovery method or Fastboot after unlocking the bootloader, in short, operations that often discourage the less accustomed to modding their smartphone. But for them there is good news, if not excellent, in quanro the company informs that from now on it is possible to move from a MIUI Global Stable rom to a MIUI Beta Global without having to unlock the Bootloader.

After the last update of MIUI Global Beta ROM, to the 8.8.16 version, the Mi Community administrator has published the ad, which you can find at this thread, in which we are also listed the devices that currently can benefit from this novelty:

Supported device models

  • Redmi 5A
  • Redmi Y1 Lite
  • Notes redmi 5 Pro
  • Redmi Y1
  • redmi 5
  • Redmi Note 5

On balance it will be enough to do the download of the last MIUI Beta Global e ROM run the Updater method, while for all the others the old procedures must still be followed. As always is recommended backup of your data since the update will delete the user data partition. So if you are a holder of a Xiaomi smartphone on the list and want to try out the new MIUI 10 before the official release, now you have an official and safe way to do it.

Hi, I have the MIUI global 9.5 stable (9.5.19.0) and it does not allow me to upgrade to the Global beta.
I downloaded the zip for the RN5 but I do not get a verification error once selected in the update screen.

I don't want to say anything but it seems to me that this option has always been there. I never had to unlock the bootloader to install a Global Beta ROM ... Not even on Mi 6, Mi Mix 2 ...

It seems to me too, among other things, I updated in the same way, without unlocking, a Redmi 4X (from 9 stable global to 10 beta global) while according to what is written it would not be among the supported models to update in this way

On the MIUI download page, here: http://en.miui.com/download-340.html#502
The Redmi 5 global and the Redmi 5 plus global have 2 different stable ROMs, while the developer with MIUI 10 is only one, so it is a bit ambiguous ... if in doubt I would wait for the official release, so much shouldn't be missing 🙂

It was not possible to switch from stable to beta, what I wonder is if it is then possible to do the opposite in case one is not happy without resorting to fastboot, recovery, etc.
