PayPal announced this Monday the launch of a new feature in the application that arrives to increase the security of users while logging in. According to the company, Passkey function replaces traditional passwords with encrypted code pairs, facilitating access to the account. In a statement posted on its blog, the platform points out that this novelty offers customers a more efficient way to access the application, bringing levels of protection against phishing scams, and is designed to prevent the reuse of passwords on multiple platforms.

While the focus is on access, the keys in question also support in-app payments, allowing consumers to use this information instead of their account password. Encrypted key pairs are supported by Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, Microsoft e Google based on the safety standard FIDO Alliance. Despite being officially released, for now the passkeys are only available for the app on iOS and iPadOS operating systems, in addition to the browser version.

The expectation is that Android users will soon be updated of the arrival of the novelty, but there is still no forecast of availability in Google's software.
