We all know the American giant Qualcomm which manages the best smartphones with their own processors. And it seems almost a case that this week, coinciding with President Trump's visit to Beijing, the US technology giant has signed a agreement of the value of 12 billions of dollars with the three major Chinese companies representing the smartphone market in the East, that is Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo.
The details of the deal are unknown, but it is plausible to think that the commercial operation foresees a greater use of Snapdragon CPUs produced by Qualcomm on the devices of the three companies including Xiaomi, in order to dominate the Chinese market and beyond. The three smartphone manufacturers already use the Snapdragon SoC but sometimes it is necessary to adopt solutions offered by MediaTek, while with the new partnership we could see the link between the companies that would no longer find Qualcomm CPUs in poor availability situations strengthened. It is understood that the three companies, Xiaomi, OPPO and Vivo, represent a good slice of the market in the smartphone ecosystem on a global scale and this would require Qualcomm as absolute domain considering that the first places in the ranking are represented by companies that do not always use their chipsets (Exynos, Kirin and Apple A-XX).
In part, this agreement seems to create even more negativity in the MediaTek company, which in this year did not have a beautiful story, a steady decline which is pushing them to abandon their diamond tip, the Helio X series, hoping to rebuild a smartphone market in the mid-range range.
Qualcomm has recently released the processor Snapdragon 636, a SoC that tries to refer to the successes obtained with the Snapdragon 625 and 630, while even more successful is collecting the mid range with top-of-the-range performance, the Snapdragon 660 currently seen on Xiaomi Mi Note 3 and OPPO R11. It is rumored that the future Xiaomi Note 5 Redmi will be equipped with the Snapdragon 636 processor this agreement could mean a greater chance that this is true.
