Samsung introduced 5 gigabit LPDDR16X RAM for mobile devices. According to the South Korean tech giant, it provides processing speed 1.3 times faster and uses 20% less energy than the current LPDDR5. LPDDR5X is a memory chip from 16 gigabits made using 14 nanometer process technology for greater energy efficiency. There bandwidth of LPDDR5X is 8.5 Gb / s, compared to the maximum of 6.4 Gb / s for LPDDR5.
Thanks to the new standard, Samsung LPDDR5X RAM modules can arrive up to 64 GB, "meeting the growing global demand for higher capacity mobile DRAMs". The primary use of LPDDR5X is mobile devices with support for 5G networks, as well as artificial intelligence systems and servers. Sang Joon Hwan, Senior Vice President and Head of DRAM at Samsung said:
Our LPDDR5X will extend the use of high-performance, low-power memory outside of smartphones and open up new opportunities for AI-based edge applications such as servers and even automobiles.
Samsung plans to launch the LPDDR5X chips before the end of the year. However, the first smartphones equipped with this memory will not be released until the first quarter of 2022.
