Qualcomm has announced the release of two new Snapdragon family mobile platforms at once. They will replace the Snapdragon 600 and 400 series, greatly surpassing the performance of their predecessors. Both SoCs support the 5G standard, which with their help will become the standard even for low cost smartphones. And this is something not to be underestimated.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is manufactured using a 4nm process and is compatible with RAM LPDDR5-5500. Its architecture includes four Cortex-A78 and Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum clock speed of 2.2 GHz, as well as an X51 5G modem. The mobile platform supports camera sensors up to 108 megapixel and registration 4K video when capturing 48 megapixel photos.
The set of supported wireless interfaces includes Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. Qualcomm says it expects a increase in 40% performance overall and a 35% improvement in graphics compared to the previous generation of proprietary chips. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will arrive on commercial devices in first quarter of 2023, with the Motorola Moto G smartphone family rumored to be the first to receive it.
The cheapest Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 at 6nm, according to the vendor, will average the 15% faster of its predecessors in terms of CPU and the power of his integrated graphics will increase by 10%. The novelty is also compatible with cameras from 108 megapixel, but the video resolution is limited to 1080p. The processor features two productive Cortex-A78 cores and six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores. SoC's debut is scheduled for third quarter of 2022.
