Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is anything but a mid-range | Benchmarks

A few days ago Qualcomm announced officially the mobile processor Snapdragon 7+ Gen2. This SoC will be installed on mid-range smartphones in 2023. We know that Redmi Note 12 Turbo will be among the first devices to equip it. But in numerical terms, how powerful is this processor?. It seems quite a lot from the benchmarks that Android Authority published poco does. Enough to surpass devices with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 has the performance of a top of the range: it even surpasses the best flagships!

The results of the tests of the mobile processor appeared on the network Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen2. The prototype of the smartphone equipped with such a SoC was compared with the flagship devices of other brands and showed very impressive results. Recall that it is built according to the “1 + 3 + 4” scheme: the processor is equipped with a “big” Cortex-X2 core with a clock speed of up to 2,91 GHz, three Cortex-A710 (up to 2,49GHz) e four Cortex-A510 (up to 1,8GHz). According to the leaked news, the prototype smartphone equipped a 6,65-inch OLED screen with a refresh rate of 144Hz and Full HD + resolution, as well as 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 3.1GB UFS 256 drive.

Benchmark data

In GeekBench 5, the smartphone scored 1211 and 4024 points in the single and multi-core disciplines, respectively. This is more than Exynos 2200 (Galaxy S22 Ultra), Snapdragon 8 Gen1 (S22 Ultra), G2 tensioner (Pixel 7 Pro) and Snapdragon 778G Plus (Nothing Phone 1). Also, in the single-thread discipline, the test device has even surpassed the OnePlus 11 with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips.

There is a small mole however, on which Qualcomm was silent during the presentation. We do not know which GPU integrates the SoC and indeed during the graphics test integrated into the 3DMark Wild Life benchmark, the result was not so impressive. The nameless Adreno chip model as part of the new SoC outperformed Exynos 2200, Tensor G2 and SD 778G Plus, but significantly lost to all other test participants.

Instead, in the stress test 3DMark Wildlife, the reference smartphone demonstrated anhigh stability under continuous load at 99,76% of the nominal value. According to this indicator, it was only surpassed by the Galaxy S23 Ultra with 8 Gen 2 chip.
