Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 more efficient than Dimension 9200 in 5G | okla

Snapdragon 8 Gen2 it is the latest flagship processor presented by Qualcomm. Obviously, it is mounted on high-end smartphones, which need both power and energy efficiency. And we are talking about this today thanks to Ookla test which proves just how Qualcomm SoC is more efficient compared to the MediaTek Dimensity 9200, also of very recent production. Let's go see the details.

The battery thanks: Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is more efficient than Dimension 9200 in 5G connection

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has proven itself more efficient than its rival platforms with 5G connections in a test conducted by Ookla. According to the published results, Qualcomm's chip had the least battery drain in an experiment that included processors from MediaTek, Samsung, and Google. The graphs below show that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 experienced 31% battery drain while using 5G. Compared to the Gen 1, its predecessor which had efficiency problems the energy expenditure of the current generation decreased by 10 percentage points

Another noteworthy fact is that the energy consumption of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in 5G is even lower than the consumption of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in 4G. In this generation of connectivity, the latest hardware consumed 25%, while the predecessor consumed 32%. Compared to the competition, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 took the lead above its main rival in the Android universe, beating the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 by a relatively small margin of 3 percentage points on 5G and 2 percentage points on 4G.

Developed to equip Galaxy S22 , Galaxy S22 Plus and Galaxy S22 Ultra , the SoC Exynos 2200 showed high power consumption in 4G and 5G connections resulting in a battery drain of 31% on 4G and 38% on 5G. The MediaTek Dimensity 9000 had the worst power consumption in comparison. Rival of Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200, the Taiwanese platform consumed 35% battery when accessing 4G network and 45% when accessing 5G network.

For testing, smartphones were loaded up to 100%. Ookla experts measured battery usage by comparing energy levels in the morning (6am to 00pm) with the lowest verified level in the afternoon (12pm to 00pm). The models used and the control measures adopted to balance the results were not disclosed.
