One of the most used chat apps in our country, WhatsApp, has just seen an important update for those who often use the WhatsApp Web, Desktop or Portal functions.
WhatsApp Web, Desktop and Portal no longer need an online smartphone
Thanks to the new multi-device beta it is in fact possible to use additional devices without the need for the smartphone to be connected to the Internet. However, messages, multimedia files and personal calls are always end-to-end encrypted.
Quoting the official WhatsApp press release:
Note:
- you can use WhatsApp on up to four additional devices at the same time, but you can only connect one phone to your WhatsApp account
- you still need to register your WhatsApp account and connect the additional devices to your phone
- if you do not use the phone for more than 14 days, the connected devices will be disconnected
