Xiaomi changes policy: no more 4 years of system updates

Some time ago we addressed the thorny topic of updates on android smartphones. Very often, we blame the individual device companies if they do not have updates for a long time. However, if we read carefully, this is not the case. It is the processor company (Qualcomm, MediaTek, etc.) that does not give the update keys. Now we come to us: how many years of updates do the latest generation Xiaomi have?

How many years of updates do the top of the Xiaomi range have? The company announces (thanks to Qualcomm) a change of policy. So good!

In accordance to announced from the company itself in the official press release, the latest top-of-the-range smartphones Xiaomi 13 and 13 Pro, they will enjoy more years of updates. Unfortunately, we do not read that Xiaomi 13 Lite will also enjoy the same policy. But having said that, let's get to the point: if Qualcomm first confirmed 4 years of updates, now for the two top of the range it is passed 5 years. We read in fact:

Specifically, Xiaomi 13 Pro and Xiaomi 13 will offer 3 years of Android system updates, along with 5 years of security patch updates.

But as we learn, this change of update policy is not only Xiaomi's. Honor, Oppo, OnePlus, Samsung and many others will also take advantage of this novelty. But there is one thing to say: not all Xiaomi smartphones will enjoy 5 years of updates. The same will apply to those of other manufacturers. Faced with a general increase in prices, there has been a tacit "agreement" with Qualcomm which provides for an increase in the number of updates (as mentioned above, we are talking about security patches and not updates to the proprietary Android skin).

Consequently only the top of the range they will have 5 years of updates. It is clear that this policy will start from the latest 13 and 13 Pro models and not from the previous models. Consequently we can say with extreme certainty that from 2023 all top-of-the-range Androids will have 5 years of security patches. A guarantee that is not irrelevant for the consumer.

For REDMI NOTE 10 PRO European model support ends in March 2024. So three years. Now it should receive MIUI 14.0.1.0 TKFEUXM but nothing for now, even if the MIUI 14.0.2.0 TKFEUXM version is now out and nothing for now.
