Xiaomi India will work with Dixon to produce Mi TV locally

It is not news that Xiaomi India tries to distance itself from its parent company and make the first successes with its own legs, or better with its own resources. In more articles we have told you about the fact that the department led by Manu Kumar Jair, wants more and more to create products made in India, centralizing the production of smartphones and various tech products on the Indian territory, using its own resources and the help of local companies. And so here is born one new collaboration involving Xiaomi India and Dixon Tech, Indian consumer electronics manufacturer.

The agreement between the two companies provides for the realization of approximately 55000 Mi TV unit every month. Definitely important numbers that satisfy the TV sales report on the Indian territory. Therefore, for August, 2018 will launch a new Mi TV with Make-in-India brand, while the inauguration of local production at the new Dixon plant in Tirupati, India is scheduled for early July.

Among the expected TV's they will undoubtedly be the versions from 32 and 43 inches to be the protagonists of local manufacturing, but in reality the final product will not be completely made in India, since at the moment nThere are no panel manufacturing facilities in the local territory, which will currently be imported by Samsung and LG. In particular, the panels will be a "Open cells" that is, they must be assembled before use for use on televisions, and this step saves customs duties.

In addition to this, Xiaomi is also collaborating with the Taiwanese producer Foxconn, to whom the 55 inch models will be reserved, to further expand the production of Mi TV which will then sell in India, as the goal is to ensure the first place in the sales rankings within maximum 2 years. However, local production in India will have to reach 90% of the total, because Xiaomi pays the 20% of the import tariff for its televisions, while the import of the "open cell" panels reduces the cost to an 5%.

We remember that India is the second largest market after China, and therefore such a strategy is entirely legitimate also by virtue of the fact that sector studies provide that in the next 5 years, two-thirds of the 183 million Indian families will have to replace their TV. In short, a deal that could bring into the pockets of Xiaomi well 12 billions of dollars.
