Official: Xiaomi will introduce Surge, its new proprietary processor

Perhaps few know that Xiaomi long ago, in the distant past 2017, presented a very special smartphone with a proprietary processor. This means that moving the machine we did not find a Qualcomm or MediaTek SoC, but a Arises. That's right, a Fully in-house developed SoC. Unfortunately, the project seemed to have been abandoned, in fact the last news we have about him dates back to 2019. But today like a bolt from the blue here is the bomb: the March 29 will come the new version.

Xiaomi will present Surge in its new version: whether it is called S2 or has another name, the crowds will go into raptures

On the Chinese social network Weibo, the company's official account today said that the new version of Surge, the self-developed SoC, will arrive on 29 March. We expect that on this date there will be the presentation and not the launch, but poco it matters: the news is unbelievable as we really believed that the project had been abandoned. Xiaomi's official poster shows that the chip will still have the name of Surge, without a specific model number being announced, so it's possible that his name will not be S2 as we think.

Poster announcing Surge, Xiaomi's proprietary processor

Xiaomi has announced its first in-house developed chip, the Surge S1, within the Xiaomi Mi 5C on February 28, 2017. This made it the fourth company in the world to jointly develop and design both a chip and a smartphone. The first version was equipped with a 64-bit octa-core processor with a lithographic process at 28 nm, maximum clock at 2.2 GHz and a quad-core graphics processor Mali T860. Nothing exciting at the time either: 28 nm was a lot even at the time, but the idea was promising.

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun said on Weibo last August that the company had not given up on the Surge chip and that "If there are any new advances, I will announce them". On 29 March in addition to 8 different products including the Xiaomi Mi Band 6, the SoC will also arrive. We are very curious: and you?
