YouTube tests a mobile gaming platform

Google would be exploring new ways to add content to YouTube , according to one report published last Friday from Wall Street Journal. People familiar with the project indicate that the social network is testing a new one online gaming service. If the news were confirmed, it would be a step similar to what Netflix did some time ago when announced the section dedicated to games via Play Store. So let's see this sort of "YouTube Gaming".

YouTube is reportedly testing a new gaming platform for mobile devices and PC. New sector of interest?

Called Playables, this YouTube gaming service would offer a variety of games that can be accessed through the YouTube application for Android and iOS or in its web version through the PC. Users can record clips, edit and broadcast live games using social network tools. A famous title that seems to be experimenting is Stack Bounce, in which players try to break layers of bricks with a bouncing ball. The game is available on the Play Store and App Store, but presumably could be played via the YouTube app, without having to download and install it on your smartphone.

While Google hasn't gained much ground in the cloud gaming market with Stadia (which was closed in September last year), YouTube is still the world's most popular video platform, so it is one of the world's most popular media most important for gamers and content creators. Playables could be a way to attract users with casual and “viral” games (for example, in the style of Angry Birds ).

While not having the same appeal among gamers who prefer titles from big developers that are successful on YouTube's rival Twitch, the strategy can increase traffic and forms of interaction between users on Google's platform, as well as serving as an answer to Netflix's future cloud gaming. Google hasn't publicly commented on Playables, so information on how the company will be able to cash in on the new business is still scarce. Furthermore, there is still no certainty that the service will have cloud processing (such as Google Stadia) or will depend entirely on the hardware of users' devices.
