Android 13 is already here: screenshots and preview features

Il codenamed for Android 13 was revealed a few months ago: Tiramisù. Google has decided to continue with the names of the sweets and the the features which will be part of the release of the future… well, they are already known. The expert developers of XDA Developers they put their hands on the very first betas and therefore on the very first functionalities of the operating system. Let's go and preview how it will look and what will be the cornerstones (so far discovered) by industry experts.

Apparently we won't have to wait too long for Android 13: XDA Developers has got its hands on the first "samples" of the operating system

Fans of the XDA Developers portal have discovered a series of screenshots of the trial version of Android 13. An early build revealed at least four interesting changes compared to the current version of the OS.

The first novelty does reference to languages for individual applications in Android 13. A recent report by Android Police revealed that Google is working on a new feature codenamed "Panlingual". Android 13 will allow users to define language settings on a per-app basis. Basically the users they will choose the language for each individual application. The function will appear as a new option "Languages"In the settings"Languages and inputs".

The second change concerns the permissions. Every app we install on our smartphone automatically has the ability to send a notification to the device. As the number of apps on our smartphones increases, so does the number of notifications and the number of apps that send notifications.

Google could take another step towards addressing this "threat" next year. Android 13 adds a new permission "POST_NOTIFICATIONS”For notifications. Users may be able to choose whether they want to allow an app to send a notification to their device similar to how they choose to allow other permissions such as location and camera access.

The third improvement (which we have all been waiting for) is theresource economy of the Android 13 operating system. XDA Developers discovered a feature called "TARE", short for "The Android Resource Economy". TARE mainly focuses on managing the power consumption on the device, with the function working through the policies of alarmmanager e Job Scheduler.

TARE introduces "Android Resource Credits ", something describable as a form of currency linked to the battery level of the device. Essentially, Google will set limits on the number of tasks an app can schedule through JobScheduler and AlarmManager depending on the app's battery level and needs. Google will assign credits to apps based on how low the battery is and apps will then be able to use these credits as payments to be used. Don't worry, these credits are "fictitious" and not real.

The latest news is a graphic one: there will also be one lock screen customization. In particular, the clock can be "squashed" to make room for other widgets and notifications.

Recall that in Android 13 the experts found a mention of the extended support for the Bluetooth LE Audio codec, unveiled in September 2021. It offers high sound quality even with low power consumption. However, the exact date of the presentation of the firmware is still unknown. The first test builds of Android 13 should be available for developers in the first half of the 2022.

NFC payments for secondary profiles

To end the overview, let's also remember that XDA Developers has discovered new commits on AOSP Gerrit which, once merged into AOSP, could add support for contactless payments for secondary users. These commits modify the app Settings to allow secondary profiles on the device to configure their contactless payment service. We can find the setting by going to Settings > devices connected > Connection preferences > NFC > Contactless payments in the owner's profile
