Android 8 Oreo arrives in beta for Xiaomi Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus

There have been occasions when Xiaomi has been criticized for not being among the most active companies in the updates of their smartphones, leaving some terminals with versions of Android a bit 'outdated. That said, the brand always brings updates, though not substantial, even to terminals later in the years, making small improvements to the interface, correcting bugs or releasing a security patch.

This is not the case today, however, Xiaomi Mi 5S and Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus exactly two years after their entry into the market, finally receive Android 8.0 Oreo, even if only in beta, for the time being.

At the same time, the company also announced that the beta developer of Android 7 Nougat for Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus will be officially finished this Friday, 14 September. While the new beta with Android Oreo will be available from the September 17 on all compatible terminals.

we mix 2

As you all know, Android 8 Oreo is not really the last Google home operating system. In fact, the successor was launched last August: Android 9 Pie. Nonetheless, the changes that Oreo will bring on the two smartphones will be quite important, probably much more interesting than those we will have by switching to Android Pie.

Going from Android 7 to Android 8 we will notice in fact the progress with regard to battery life, thanks to algorithms that improve its use, such as terminating applications in the background when in sleep mode, with the aim of optimizing the use of the battery keeping the applications open only when necessary. With the new OS it is expected also a greater fluidity during use and an increase in security thanks to the latest security patches. Finally, it will also be possible to restrict the permissions to each application, for those who do not want to give the complete go-ahead to a not very trusted app.

What do you think of this update, a little late? Are you the owner of one of the upgradable terminals? Please let us know in the comments section below!
