Arena of Valor now in Vulkan version on 12 Xiaomi devices

If you are a "mobile gamer" you probably know very well the video game "Honor of Kings" also known as "Arena of Valor", a game produced by the Chinese giant Tencent (the company behind WeChat and much more) of the genre MOBA in which they compete two teams from 5 players. Arena of Valor is similar to more famous video games like League of Legends, which is also owned by Tencent Games.

Well, now you are wondering what does Arena of Valor have to do with Xiaomi? Quite simply, the Xiaomi Mi 8 Youth Edition (known as Mi 8 Lite in the rest of the world) was the first smartphone with Snapdragon 660 processor to support the Vulkan version of the game, this then tightened even more relations between the video game company, chipset manufacturer Qualcomm and Xiaomi.

Vulkan is a next-generation application program interface (API) standard introduced by the non-profit organization Khronos Group at the 2015 GDC with the aim of replacing the current OpenGL standard used in most games.

Since its inception, the Vulkan standard has proven to be better at optimizing multi-core processors and GPUs working at the same time, allowing to create multi-thread tasks in parallel and thus maximizing performance.

Now, returning to Arena of Valor and Xiaomi, 12 of the smartphones of the Chinese company now support this technology, which brings benefits not from poco. For example, the Vulkan version of the video game manages to run with 30% less CPU usage than the non-Vulkan version. This then obviously also translates into lower consumption, all without affecting the graphics of the game in the least, which on the contrary can be improved with the same hardware.

Smartphones that support Arena of Valor in Vulkan version are:

  • Xiaomi Note 5 Redmire
  • Xiaomi Mi 6
  • Xiaomi Mi 6X
  • Xiaomi Mi Note 3
  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 2
  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 SE
  • Xiaomi Mi 8
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 Explorer Edition
  • Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite
  • Xiaomi Mi MIX 3

So, in conclusion, if you're a smartphone player and play Arena of Valor, expect an update that will improve performance and decrease consumption. We are still waiting to see the same technology implemented in many more games and devices.

Is there any of you playing Arena of Valor or other video games that support the Vulkan standard? If so, please let us know in the comments section below!
