In October 2021, Mark Zuckerberg announced to the world that Facebook would be changing its name to Meta, shifting the company's focus towards the metaverse. This move has raised several issues, including that of data privacy personal. Today, we'll focus on how Meta uses personal data to train its generative AI models and how we can protect our privacy. This has now become common use and we must know how to defend ourselves.
How to protect our personal data
Meta recently updated the resources section of its help center to include a form entitled "Data subject rights for generative AI”. This module allows users to submit requests regarding the use of their information by third parties for training generative AI models. Generative AI technology is becoming increasingly advanced, with companies creating sophisticated chatbots and turning simple texts into complex responses and images.

Meta offers the possibility of access, modify or delete any personal data included in the various third-party data sources the company uses to train its large language models and related AI. The form refers to third-party information as data “publicly available on the Internet or from licensed sources“. This type of information, the company says, can account for some of the “billions of pieces of data” used to train generative AI models that “they use predictions and patterns to create new content“. In essence: research and information of all kinds are transformed into data that will be fed to generative AI models. Among this information also our personal data that we have given to Meta.
