Family Comparison: Mi 5S Plus vs. Mi 5S vs Mi 5 Pro

A few days ago, a press conference was held by Xiaomi during which three well-known products were presented S, one of which is the new Mi TV 3S, while the other two are the Xiaomi Mi 5S and the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus. Today we will talk about the latter, offering you a nice family comparison between the top of the range of the company and, in case you are undecided on which to choose, with this article you will have a complete overview.

Display

The Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus has the display with the largest diagonal (5,7 ″ inches) but this does not mean that it is better, on the contrary, it concerns the subjective tastes of a person. On the contrary, having a greater diagonal inevitably involves a lower brightness which, as you can see, turns out to be higher on both the other two smartphones (600nit). All, however, have the same resolution and type of panel used but the first real novelty that could make you opt for the Xiaomi Mi 5S instead of the other two lies in the fact that the latter has a pressure sensitive display; technology that appears for the first time on a smartphone of the Chinese house and which could also be one of its strengths.

Performance

Snapdragon-821

performance tab

Both the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus and the Xiaomi Mi 5S have the latest Qualcomm top-chip chipset that offers better performance than the Snapdragon 820 integrated into the Mi 5 Pro. However, as you can see, the one in the Mi 5S has been lightweight under-clock that, basically, has brought the clock frequencies (CPU and GPU) to the same as those of the Snapdragon 820.

Storage

memory-1

Even if they all have the same types of memories, the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus dominates the other two smartphones due to its 6 GB of RAM memory, a bit excessive for some but still quantitatively higher than the 4 GB of the Mi 5S and Mi 5 Pro. Here the subjective opinion of the user comes into play again that if for some the 4 GB may already seem a lot, for others the 6 GB are not even.

Camera

The photographic sector is one of the sectors on which Xiaomi has focused a lot with the last two smartphones just presented, taking the concept of photography to a whole other level. This last point is particularly noticeable in the double photographic sensor of the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus which has been significantly improved compared to the one inserted in the Redmi Pro. The same goes for that of the Mi 5S in which a photosensitive sensor present in normal digital cameras has been implemented which is able to capture a greater quantity of light and, therefore, obtain much more realistic and qualitatively superior photos. If you want to learn more about how these cameras work, we recommend that you take a look at this article | Xiaomi Mi 5S and Mi 5S Plus are official |. On the contrary, the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro is the only one that has an optical image stabilizer (OIS) on 4 axes that allows you to capture photos even on the move. However, the photographic sensor of the latter tends to overexpose the white tone with the result that you have photos with a "burned" effect.

Sensors

Here is another important novelty that could lead you to choose the Xiaomi Mi 5S with respect to Mi 5S Plus and Mi 5 Pro, which is the first implementation on a smartphone (in general) of the ultrasonic sensor for recognition of the fingerprints, while the other two smartphones have a classic sensor. On the contrary, a small neo of the latter lies in the lack of the infrared sensor, while all the remaining components are identical on all three smartphones, including support for the NFC and all its functions.

All three smartphones have different dimensions and weights but certainly the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro is the most compact (in every sense) among the three. Compared to other smartphones on the market, these have not been deprived of the 3,5 mm audio input so as not to force you to buy expensive wireless headphones. Plus, all of them have a reversible micro-USB Type-C input, plus they support Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0, which can complete a full charge within an hour. Speaking of battery, we cannot fail to praise that of the Xiaomi Mi 5S Plus (3800 mAh), even if in terms of overall autonomy there could be substantial differences based on the use made of the smartphone. Finally, they all have four different colors but only the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro has the light pink color which, respectively, has been replaced with the rose-gold one of the Xiaomi Mi 5S / Plus.

We conclude with what may be another relevant component that might induce you to choose a smartphone against the other, ie selling prices (at the exchange rate).

price-tab

Personally, the smartphone that most convinced us among the three is certainly the Xiaomi Mi 5S, especially due to the significant step forward made with the camera and the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, as well as the presence of a pressure sensitive display. , what not poco for a smartphone offered at this price. Naturally, these prices are reported at the current exchange rate and, therefore, are free of related import taxes and so on. This is our point of view but if you would have planned the purchase of one of these smartphones, which one would you buy?
