Photo Comparison between iPhone 6S Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge and Mi 5S

Following the presentation of the new Xiaomi home smartphones, the event we talked about in this article, the first videos and the first ones have already been released images "From the real" of the two terminals, but the attention for the Mi 5S and the Mi 5S Plus you could already guess yesterday from the 2 millions of units booked even before the official announcement.

Lei Jun, CEO and Co-Founder of Xiaomi, to demonstrate one of the strengths of the new entry Mi 5S, the photographic department, showed during the conference a real confrontation between the cameras on Xiaomi and those of mobile phones its biggest rivals on the market: iPhone 6S Plus and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

Let's start with the hardware features of the three phones: the Mi 5S is equipped with an 1 / 2.3 ″ Sony IMX 378 sensor from 12MP, with f / 2.0 aperture and dual-LED flash, capable of recording video in 4K @ 60fps; there is also the PDAF, while the OIS is present only on the Plus version. It should be noted that the sensor is the same mounted on the common low-end digital cameras on the market: this is, in my opinion, an important step in the electronics industry hi-tech because it means an ever greater approach of smartphones cameras to semi-professional cameras and to a progressive improvement in the quality of the photographic equipment available.

Returning to the hardware components of the phones compared, on the Galaxy S7 Edge instead, depending on the model, a Sony IMX 260 or SLSI S5K2L1 sensor (produced by Samsung itself) is mounted, but always 1 / 2.5 ″ in size and 12MP, f / 1.7, PDAF, OIS, LED flash, with video recording in 4K @ 30fps. The iPhone 6S Plus instead has an Apple proprietary sensor of 1 / 2.8 ″ in size and 12MP, f / 2.2, PhaseDetection sensors, OIS, dual LED flash and is capable of recording video in 4K.

But let's look at the images in comparison:

We note first of all that the Samsung camera thanks to its larger aperture is able to receive more light, so we get overall a more calibrated result than that obtained by Xiaomi, which seems slightly overexposed. On this occasion, the iPhone camera does not prove to be up to the competition.

In this second image we see how the iPhone achieves a better result than the previous test, but there are still issues of under-exposure and lack of definition, which instead gets Mi 5S, which I think is the winner of this session.

In this third and last picture we see how the iPhone 6S Plus has both focus and light quality problems, while the S7 Edge tends to give a magenta light. Once again the Mi 5S makes a warm but not excessive light, creating a very natural effect, without sacrificing details, indeed, it can capture many nuances.

Based on these photos, there is no doubt that the Xiaomi Mi 5S from a photographic point of view can see it very well with super-tops in the market.
