Facebook and Instagram may no longer exist in Europe

What a mess since when Facebook has changed its name. Or rather, the company that controls the blue social network as well as other social networks such as WhatsApp and Instagram. Apparently the problem could get much bigger today: Facebook could disappear from Europe due to a (fair) law of the European Community. Veimao to know about this from PocketNow, through a document sent to Meta by Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Let's see the details together.

It's all true: Europe could "abolish" the existence of Facebook and Instagram from our country. Both are the property of Meta

In a report presented to Meta by Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company outlined a scenario in which it would due shut down Facebook and Instagram in Europe. The situation is this: Meta currently processes and stores user data in the United States and Europe. The company claims that the data management on all continents is critical to its business. However, new European laws require that user data be stored and processed only on European servers.

facebook and instagram may no longer exist in europe

Currently Meta does not comply with the new European regulations, which could theoretically lead to the closure of Facebook and Instagram in Europe.

If the new transatlantic data transmission system is not adopted and we cannot continue to rely on SCC or other alternative means of transporting data from Europe to the United States, we may not be able to offer some of our products and services more important, including Facebook and Instagram, in Europe

At the same time, Meta notes that the new rules will affect so many companies and not just Facebook enough to cause considerable damage. And although Meta itself speaks of such a scenario, it is very difficult to imagine it will come true, given the popularity and importance of Facebook and Instagram for the modern world.

Now, our point of view is this: every company must adapt to the rules imposed by the European Community. Facebook or not, our data is in their possession and cannot be used in a manner poco transparent (as it already happens). What do you think about it?
