Google news: “Help me write” arrives on Chrome. Here's how it works

Google is ready to launch its latest AI innovation, “Help me write“, in the desktop versions of Chrome. This feature, already present in other applications such as Gmail and Docs, promises to revolutionize the way we generate online content. Here's how the feature will work on Chrome and which ones benefits will offer users.

“Help me write” on Chrome will offer a sort of ChatGPT-style chatbot

Google continues its march in integrating artificial intelligence into its platforms, aiming to bridging the gap with leading AI solutions like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Copilot. The new chapter in this strategy is the introduction of the “Help me write” feature in the desktop versions of Chrome, for operating systems such as Windows, Mac and Linux.

This function, known internally like “Compose”, it is based on the simple concept of text generation via prompt. The user provides initial input, and Google's AI generates coherent content, making it easier to create texts. “Help me write” is already a popular feature in Google Messages, Gmail, Docs e Keep, and now extends to Chrome, promising to make online writing more efficient and intuitive.

An interesting feature of “Help me write” is its ability to adapt to the context of the page on which the user is writing, improving the coherence and relevance of the content generated. Furthermore, the user will have the possibility to customize the writing style, choosing from options such as “Shorten","Detail“, and variations in formality.

It is worth mentioning that in parallel, Google is working on Gemini, a new AI tool designed to challenge OpenAI's GPT-4. Gemini aims to handle highly complex tasks by combining different types of data, such as images and text. Meanwhile, Bard, Google's current AI technology, continues to expand, with the recent introduction to YouTube as an experimental extension.

When will the news come out?

While development is still ongoing, it is expected that this feature will not be available until the release of Chrome 122, scheduled for February 2024. Initially, “Help Me Write” will not be available for Chromebooks.
