The latest addition to Google Maps is not just that of don't lose the GPS signal under the tunnels but extends its service by informing you about air quality that you breathe. An update that transforms the app into an even more essential travel companion, ensuring not only that you reach your destination but that you do so in the healthiest way possible. The rollout of this feature has happened for iOS and is happening for Android.

Google Maps and air quality: a step forward for health

Google Maps is enriched with a particularly long-awaited feature: air quality verification, now available for users identification Android also in Italy, after being introduced for iOS. This implementation marks a game changer for app users, who can now access crucial health information directly from their mobile device.

In the Google Maps interface, precisely under the search bar in the top left corner, a rectangular box has been added showing the current weather conditions and, more importantly, the air quality index (AQI). This data, essential for those who live in urban areas or intend to travel, is now easily consultable with a simple touch, together with forecasts of imminent rain or snow.

By clicking on this box, the user is directed to one card detailed (centre photo) which provides a complete overview of the weather, including maximum and minimum temperatures and temperatures forecast for the next 12 hours. Air quality, in particular, receives specific emphasis, allowing for more conscious planning of one's days, especially for outdoor activities.

The peculiarity of this function lies in its ability to update automatically by moving the user around the map, thus offering always current and specific information for each geographical area. This aspect highlights Google's commitment to offering solutions that not only improve the browsing experience but also contribute to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle such as reduce fuel consumption and raising awareness on environmental issues.
