We can now access the Google account using Passkey

Passwords have been a key part of the digital experience since the beginning, but sadly they are too vulnerable to cyber attacks and incorrect use. A password can be compromised in many ways, such as phishing, password cracking and using weak passwords. This has led to a race for innovation, with many developers trying to find a more secure alternative to traditional passwords. So here's Google announces the arrival of Passkeys.

Goodbye to passwords: Google officially launches Passkey. With this mode we will no longer have to remember numbers and letters to access Google

The first time we talked about Passkeys was in reference to the security system adopted by PayPal. Google, along with other industry players, has worked hard to implement Passkeys on their services. In 2020, Google has partnered with FIDO Alliance, Apple and Microsoft to develop Passkeys as an alternative to passwords. Since then, the Mountain View company has made significant progress in making Passkeys available on many of its platforms, including Chrome and Android.

And today, ahead of World Password Day, Google started rolling out support for Passkeys in Google Accounts across all major platforms. They will be an additional option that people will be able to use to log in, along with password, two-step verification (2SV), and so on. they are a new form of authentication that allows users to log into apps and websites using a fingerprint, face scan or PIN screen lock. This makes logging in easier and faster than traditional passwords, and more secure at the same time.

Why Passkeys are better than passwords

In addition to making login more secure, Passkeys can also reduce the cost and time required to manage passwords. Many users still use weak or easy-to-guess passwords, which makes it easier for cybercriminals to gain access to their accounts. With this "new" mode, however, users no longer have to worry about creating and managing complex passwords and changing them on a regular basis. Another great advantage of passkeys is theirs resistance to phishing attacks. Cybercriminals often use phishing to steal users' passwords, but Passkeys make it more difficult for them to steal access to their accounts.

How to test Passkey

Starting today, they're available for Google Accounts. It's possible try it here and setting them up is easy. For Google Workspace accounts, administrators will soon have the ability to enable them for their end users while signed in. Of course, like any new beginning, the final step will take time, that's why passwords and two-step verification will still work for Google Accounts.
