With the current generation of Pixel, Google has ditched face unlock but Google Pixel 6 could reintroduce it. This is what emerged from the latest rumors. To reveal it is Mishaal Rahman, well-known developer of XDA Developers, via his Twitter profile. Pixel Phone aficionados will certainly be aware that with the latest device introduced by the company, the face unlock feature has been removed. Instead, a cheaper fingerprint sensor has been put in place. Apparently, however, the situation could change, and for the better.
Google Pixel 6 could debut with face unlock combined with the fingerprint sensor integrated into the display: a big step forward
Il Pixel 4 was the last in the series to have integrated facial unlocking via a sensor. The Pixel 5, on the other hand, the last device released in chronological order, does not have it According to what was revealed by the developer of XDA Developers, however, in the future the next Google Pixel 6 could "return" with the face unlock combined with the fingerprint sensor integrated into the display. The evidence arose from lines of code that the developer himself discovered.
Mishaal Rahman did not directly mention the Google Pixel 6 but everything suggests that the novelty will be reintroduced with this device. As mentioned, the lines of code refer to the presence of both recognition systems:
- "Make unlocking your phone a breeze"
- "Save time unlocking phone in your pocket"
- "Unlock your phone securely with your face and fingerprint"
Of course this novelty is still in its embryonic stage and it is not said that Google will decide to introduce the functionality with the next Pixel. In any case, we know that this will debut starting from the second half of the year. This kind of one-to-one solution is not only in the interest of Google but also of other companies. In fact, we know that Apple is also interested in such an approach.
