In the digital age we live in, the amount of information available online is immense. We often find ourselves navigating through page after page of content, trying to extract essential information. Google, always attentive to the needs of users, has decided to intervene, proposing an innovative solution. The news comes from colleagues of 9to5Google who tell us about the "key points” in web searches. Let's see the details.
Google and artificial intelligence: a revolution in web browsing
Google has rolled out a significant update to its Generative Research Experience (SGE). But what exactly does that mean? Let's imagine having a virtual assistant who, while we navigate, suggests the key points of an article or a web page. This is what Google is trying to accomplish with “SGE while browsing“. The idea behind this project is simple but revolutionary: to use artificial intelligence to help users navigate online information, allowing them to get to the heart of what they are looking for faster and more intuitively. It is not just a simple summary, but a real guide to understanding the contents.
How does it work?
If we use the Google app on Android or iOS, we may notice a new bottom panel with a purple icon. This icon represents the new feature. Touching it, the “Key points of the page“, organized in a bulleted list. These dots represent the information essential of the article or page we are reading. And if we want to deepen one of these points, just touch it and we will be directed directly to the related paragraph.

For desktop users, Google has integrated this feature directly in Chrome. As you browse, there will be a new side panel showing key points of the content we're viewing. The beauty of “SGE while browsing” lies in its versatility. It can be used for a variety of tasks, from learning new topics to researching recipes or buying products. Google has thought of everyone, offering a tool that can really improve our online experience.
Importantly, this feature is currently only available for free, non-paywalled items. However, Google has already announced that further innovations will be released in the coming days, making “SGE while browsing” even more powerful and versatile.
