Netflix expands gaming: now also on TVs and computers

In the streaming landscape, Netflix has always represented a point of reference for millions of users all over the world. But since 2021, the company has started to look beyond, exploring the vast universe of video games. The target? Offer an immersive and high-quality gaming experience, capable of satisfying the needs of an increasingly large and diverse audience.

Netflix: The expansion in the world of video games reaches new devices

Netflix's strategy isn't limited to simply integrating games for mobile devices. The ambition is far greater: make video games accessible on a wide range of devices, from big screen televisions to computers, via mobile devices. An ambitious project, which aims to consolidate the position of Netflix as a leader not only in streaming video content, but also in the gaming industry.

To achieve this goal, have been started of beta testing in Canada and the United Kingdom. These tests, reserved for a limited number of users, concern the use of games on different types of televisions and, in the coming weeks, also on PC and Mac through the Netflix website. Among the games selected for this experimental phase, stand out “Oxenfree“, produced by Night School Studio, and “Molehew's Mining Adventure".

An interesting detail concerns the controller used to play: for games broadcast on TV, you will not need to purchase an additional device, but you will be able to use a tool that most people already have, namely their smartphone. As for the use on PC and Mac, however, it will be possible to play using the classic combination of keyboard and mouse.

These tests are just the beginning. Netflix is working with several technology partners, including Amazon Fire TV, chromecast with Google TV, LG, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku e Samsung, to ensure that the games are compatible with as many devices as possible. The ultimate goal is clear: to make video games a fundamental element of Netflix's offer, thus expanding the entertainment experience offered to users.
