Huami ready to launch the new third generation wearable chip

The Huami Technology brand, which is part of the Xiaomi ecosystem and which as we know produces successful wearable devices, is also one of the few manufacturers in the world of artificial intelligence chips to power the various wearables. Well, today the company founder announced that the third generation wearable chip is coming soon; his name could be "Huangshan 3".

At Huami's 2021 year innovation conference held today, Huami founder Huang Wang revealed that Huami's in-house third-generation chip will be launched soon. Moreover, according to Huang Wang, as chip technology advances, so does the capital to invest.

Despite this, Huami seems to be able to satisfy the final consumer by producing very cheap devices (at least compared to the competition) also thanks to the production of homemade chips. For the uninitiated, Huami entered the world of self-developed wearable chips in 2018 by announcing the first chipset, the Huangshan No.1, a chip powered by artificial intelligence.

Almost two years later, the company updated its technology by introducing the Huangshan 2 chipset in June 2020. This chipset, which Huami has used in many of its smart products, has an architecture based on the RISC-V instruction set. It also adopts a C2 coprocessor and an independent NPU (Neural Processing Unit).

Thanks to the latter, the NPU, it is possible to obtain artificial intelligence deep learning and then make predictions from the available data set. With the third generation we can expect the company to upgrade the NPU and instruction set to achieve a further leap in performance.

Finally, Wang has not yet confirmed the name of the chip, but it is very likely that this is Huangshan No. 3. Clearly the brand could surprise us all with a new name, but we will only find out at the official launch.
