JEDEC announces the new UFS 2.2 standard with support for the new MediaTek chips

The existence of UFS 2.2 was first confirmed in MediaTek's 5G-Dimensity 800U and Dimensity 720 SoC chips, but the latest 2.x version of the UFS standard at the time was UFS 2.1 and version 3.x was UFS 3.1, so all the details had not yet been announced.

While today the company JEDEC has published the UFS 2.2 standard, which comes with the document number JESDJESD220C-2.2. Along with the new standard comes its specifications of course.

We therefore discover that the only difference between the UFS 2.2 standard and the UFS 2.1 standard is the addition of the Write Booster function (write accelerator), which improves the writing speed compared to UFS 2.1. Increased write speed generally results in faster application startup speed, cache loading offers better browsing behavior, as well as faster encoding times and many other great features.

So a major upgrade in terms of write speed, which is obviously one of the fundamental factors in an internal memory chip.
