Lei Jun and the war on counterfeit products

Raise your hands to those who did not happen to find in their hands a counterfeit product but passed off as real and sold in unsuspected stores. It is precisely counterfeiting the main theme of the interview with CEO Xiaomi Lei Jun following one of the sessions of the National Congress of People's Representatives, where he is a member.

The CEO has specified that a percentage ranging from 30 to 40% of the Xiaomi phones on the market is made up of fake martphones, while over 300 online sales sites only 2 between them are authorized. By purchasing a counterfeit product that infringes intellectual property rights, the image and work of the company, not only in its profits, is undermined, as the small price is poor, and electronic products are particularly at risk and we are not protected against malfunctions or defects that may still occur.

In addition to mobile phones, even small accessories such as powerbanks - and Xiaomi's powerbank - are being counterfeit. You Jun says that as you do not judge a book from its cover, it also happens with these false powerbank. The point is not what originals might look like these from outside, but inside to get them running there are poor, unattractive batteries and electronic cards.

This year a law was proposed to combat the phenomenon aimed at both small physical stores and online sales sites, sponsored by many companies that have found their designs and products copied, but the protection of copyright still faces many difficulties, especially in obtaining evidence of the crime and in the cost of the legal defense of the matter.

According to Lei Jun, to combat the phenomenon it is necessary that the legislation is strengthened and the police inspect, control and supervise the workplaces, because the legal responsibility for counterfeiting essentially does not exist, so there is always convenience to fake products.

Another aspect to consider of the story is when employees in the Research and Development sector are sent by companies to study or collaborate with other companies and, returning to the company of origin, they use the know-how learned and so even the same technology is stolen from damage of free competition. Lei Jun explains that companies have a control system specialized in identifying any situations of industrial "espionage", but the effect on the total of cases is unfortunately minimal.

However, as far as we can make our users, to verify the originality of a Xiaomi smartphone, , promising you can find a page dedicated to the international official website, or through this official page, or through these two posts dedicated to the official forum: link 1 - link 2.

I think this is a very interesting article. Lately I bought two Xiaomi phones from both Grossoshop and Honorbuy, but neither of them had on the box or inside the security code to be scratched that would be used to authenticate the product on the link you published. Do you need to worry?
