Some leak confirms the potential of the Surge S2: will it overtake the Kirin 960?

That the Surge S1 has attracted the attention of fans and not only, there is no doubt. It is a pity, however, that the expectations were not really met as Xiaomi users wanted: the simultaneous presentation of the We are 5C which, in all likelihood, is not all this performance "monster", has caused some perplexity as the process of manufacturing the first Xiaomi processor.

The Surge S1, in fact, is made to 28nm, using the octa-core Cortex A53 and a Mali T860 GPU that, if we wanted to make a comparison, we could compare it with the Snapdragon 625 and with the MediaTek Helio P20. Average band, in short.

But what has left us most puzzled is the 28nm that we can consider as a widely overcome technology. Without going too far into the specific, a processor a 28nm surely it is less performing than one 16nm and, if you want to be really fussy, keeps the risk of overheating too high.

Today, however, the Weibo user @Kevin Wang, market analyst expert, revealed that probably the successor to SoC Xiaomi will be realized at 16nm and that will almost surely exceed the expectations of users.

Xiaomi Surge S2: what can we anticipate?

Sincerely, no official or unofficial news came up yet, but as far as we know no real details of what should be the top Xiaomi top-end chip, we can expect a "process update" of GPUs and, above all, of cores.

Evolution therefore, but also performance that apparently is in short supply on the Mi 5C: to compete with what at the moment should be the market benchmark, Kirin 960, it is conceivable that Xiaomi can focus on an octa-core Cortex-A73, side by side with a much superior GPU.

To make Surge S1, initially known as Pinecone, Xiaomi has spent a good month 19 if we consider that the first real indiscretion about it was launched in July 2015. Ben 19 months and, now, we are already talking about its possible evolution and a launch that should not be late or so far in time. Just think that the technologies are already allowing the production of 10nm processors, which puts Xiaomi in a position where he will have to chase to reach the other producers ...

... but surely this was already budgeted!

And what do you think? Will Xiaomi do not miss the expectations this time?
