MediaTek announces the new mid-end processors Helio G96 and Helio G88. Will their debut be on Redmi 10?

The times when people turned up their noses for the equipment of a MediaTek processor on a smartphone seem to be over, as in the last year and a half the company has managed to ride the crest of the wave, offering increasingly optimized processors with excellent performance, to the advantage of low costs for the end user.

Technology advances and so also the electronic components must update and here the new Helio G96 and Helio G88 arrive on the market, two processors that will target the mid-range and entry level of smartphones / tablets, without making us give up features that we generally find only on the top of the range, such as support for 120 Hz display refresh rates and 108 MP cameras.

MediaTek

Both processors launched by MediaTek do not focus on the new 5G connectivity standard and this suggests that the smartphones that will use it will be exclusively 4G, just like the next Redmi 10, which from the latest certifications should arrive by the end of the summer. Coincidence?

MediaTek Helio G96

The MediaTek Helio G96 looks like the sequel to the MediaTek Helio G95, this being an eight-core processor: two of them Cortex A76 at 2,05 GHz and the rest, six Cortex A55 cores. As GPU we find an ARM Mali G57 MC2 accompanied by MediaTek HyperEngine 2.0 Lite technology.

Support for screens with 120 Hz refresh rate will be one of the strengths of the SoC, a real renewal compared to the Helio G95 which instead only supported 60 Hz screens. The aforementioned support for photographic sensors up to 108 MP is not missing. , Bluetooth 5.2 while the WiFi remains at the standard 5.0 as well as RAM and internal memory will be supported only LPDDR4X at 2133 MHz. And UFS 2.2 respectively.

MediaTek Helio G88

The MediaTek Helio G88 instead arrives on the scene as a renewal of the Helio G85, showing an eight-core structure, two of which Cortex A76 at 2.0GHz and another six Cortex A55.

MediaTek

Also in this case there is no shortage of surprises, such as support for Full HD + screens with refresh rates up to 90 Hz, up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM at 1800MHz, cameras up to 64MP, while unfortunately and I underline unfortunately the memory will be supported only of type eMMC 5.1, which clashes with the whole outline of the specifications, even if we are addressing an entry level.

Certainly the two processors will peep out on the new Redmi 10 series, assuming that the Helio G88 can arrive at a later time, with the arrival of the variant A or C. And what do you think? Will you continue to turn up your nose?
