Talking about Unlock Face, the safety light comes on immediately. Many believe this unlocking method poco effective and safe unless you are talking about Apple that with its iPhone X offers an unlocking system based on face recognition in 3D. Up to now, no Android device offers such performance except for the Mi 8 Explorer Edition, which in some ways, at least on paper seems even better than the release proposed by Apple.
And we are not talking about reliability related to the release in itself, but to the security guaranteed by it. In fact, in the past we have witnessed the fact that on some devices we could overcome the virtual obstacle simply by using a photograph. But let's leave Apple where it is, and let's go back to our beloved green robot, which apparently will offer a similar unlocking system thanks to the development of MediaTek, which everyone knows for the production of low cost CPU.
MediaTek is ready to launch an iPhone X style Face ID module
And just MediaTek is intent on launching a hardware dedicated to the Face ID, at a competitive and affordable price. Indeed MediaTek has been collaborating with companies for some time Himax e Megvi (the latter has developed the Face ++ technology) to realize an economic version of the module in use on Apple's smartphone, able to recognize the face with 3D scanning thanks to the help of a Dot Projector, in capable of projecting up to 30 thousand scanning points on the face, mapping the user's face.
Until now only Xiaomi with his Mi 8 Explorer Edition it seems to have perfectly emulated this technology (which seems to be more closely linked to patents and not to the real capabilities of the American company) MediaTek will re-establish with the 3D Active Stereo Camera, capable of creating up to 7000 scan points, For a three-dimensional mapping rather reliable. Unfortunately we have no further information nor an official launch date, but the development seems to be at a good point, therefore a surprise is not excluded by the end of the year.
