We often talk about updates, late or not, concerning Xiaomi smartphones, like the last rollout started at the end of March and which is involving most of the Chinese company's catalog devices. We often run to check if it has arrived OTA notification or if the update is available but equally we often do not know what this update foresees at the level of novelty and functionality, and so here I am to clarify the latest release of Xiaomi, the MIUI 9.5.
Favorites folder: your images of the "heart"
The advent of digital has meant that taking a picture or shooting a video is no longer as weighted as it could be when the images were imprinted on film, and so we find ourselves with hundreds if not thousands of photos and videos to clog the memory of our smartphone, making the search for a specific shot or video that is particularly close to our heart confusing. MIUI 9.5 then provides a nice feature within the Gallery app that will allow us to insert the photos and videos that most satisfy our emotions within one folder called Favorites. Just click onheart-shaped icon which is located at the top right of every picture or video and the system will automatically move our most precious moments into the folder mentioned above.
New notification panel
The new panel made available in MIUI 9.5 there presents information regarding notifications in a more concise and complete way. Notifications will be grouped according to the membership application, avoiding mess in the screen but it will be possible too quickly respond to messages without having to open the app. Just drag the notification down to see them content, now enriched with profile photos, images and texts, and then scroll down again to reply to the sender without having to leave the screen where you are at the moment.
Screen Recorder: now also records audio
La Screen Recorder function is one of the most popular features introduced in the MIUI interface, already present in the 8 version. With the new update this valuable application allows you to record not only in MUTE mode but also in the MIC mode. To be clear the first option registers the display of our smartphone without capturing any sound while the second allows you to capture both the external audio (precisely captured by the microphone) and the internal one. This function therefore allows users of MIUI 9.5 to create video tutorials which often also require sound for a better effect.
My Browser
Needless to deny that a lot of users use Chrome as a browser, more than anything because it allows you to connect your Google account and benefit from a "history" user that goes beyond the device used at that time. But the Mi Browser is still a valid alternative that update after update optimizes the user experience more and more. And indeed with MIUI 9.5 they were introduced new features as:
- Renewed homepage and optimized performance
- Quick search options
- Fixed the position of the search bar
- Browser kernel optimized
- Preset keywords to search for sites via short URLs

One Xiaomi is for semprand, at least this is what we hope when we buy a smartphone, but it could happen to take advantage of some offers and take a new smartphone, perhaps the latest top of the range of Chinese OEM. But the first thought that assails us, instead of enjoying the purchase, is that of having to install our applications from scratch with the fear of losing the data attached. Hotspot data limit
How many times have you found yourself in the condition of having to share your precious connection Giga, to a friend, a relative, to the child who wants to see the last review published on YouTube from XiaomiToday.it? And how many times have you found yourself forgetting to close the sharing Hotspot or that the person to whom you have surrendered the Giga has dried up you too? Well with MIUI 9.5 it is now possible share the Hotspot connection by limiting this to a pre-set threshold after which, the "leech" will be disconnected automatically.
App Lock: now with new styles of protection!
We all know App Lock, or the possibility of block access to third parties about certain applications. Well we do not add anything else but the fact that now the possibility of unlocking / blocking extends to three options such as setting a sequential, alphanumeric or PIN password.
Full Screen Gestures: easier navigation
A few years ago it was unthinkable to such a function and in some ways it is still so, but technological evolution imposes certain dictum like those to the way we interact with our smartphones, moving from physical buttons to touch-sensitive ones to arrive at devices with wider screens that introduce the keys to the display. But for so much more full screen experience the so-called come into play Full Screen Gestures. At the beginning of the Android system, the applications offered were counted on the fingers and toes but now the catalog is really wide, and so we find ourselves trying this or the other app. Launchers without app drawer in some ways are more confusing but MIUI 9.5 has the solution to this too. In fact, it is now possible to group multiple applications in a simple way. Not that it was not possible before but now you can select multiple items (such as all the apps dedicated to music) and create a group, ie a folder that we could then rename. And speaking of music, in MIUI 9.5 the application was entirely designed from scratch, changing the design, making it more youthful and highlighting the main functions for immediate use.
New Clock widget
Until poco long ago, within the MIUI interface, only two widgets dedicated to the clock were available. Now, however, the new MIUI 9.5 update provides one third choice with a minimalist design but really nice to the sight. The widget is complete providing now, date and weather all seasoned by a elegant and clean vertical design.
Too bad that I with my mi5 is already at the 9.6 of xiaomi EU, based on Oreo and not even the shadow of the new notification panel

With Mi5 I have xiaomi.eu, the latest based on Nougat and therefore with notifications ... in fact I am waiting for the notification file to come out also for Oreo and then I will update.
