Farewell to MIUI as we know it: a big change is coming

Perhaps the vast majority of Xiaomi users will not be too interested in this news, but to another slice of "geeks" yes. Who knows well the MIUI, or the customized Android skin of Xiaomi, Redmi and smartphones POCO, will also know how it works from Chinese firmware. Later we will see it better, but here we are talking about a big change that will affect it. There closed beta version will no longer exist starting from Android 13 and will be, albeit in part, replaced by the public beta. Let's go see the details of the news.

MIUI says goodbye to the closed beta version which will, in part, be replaced by the Public Beta. Change yes, but to us it tange poco perhaps

As reported by MIUI Polska via the well-known developer Kacper Violinist, after twelve years of publishing the weekly MIUI updates, the Xiaomi team announced today that, starting from the update to Android 13, these versions will no longer be published. Weekly updates are those of the closed beta branch. But what does closed beta mean? Let's take a small step back and outline how MIUI has worked up to now. There have been three types of updates, or rather versions:

  • versions stable: those with a build number such as V13.0.1.0.SKBCNXM (China) or
  • 13.0.1.0.SKBMIXM (Global). We advise you to read this article to understand all branches of MIUI well;
  • versions beta public funtains: those characterized by a build number such as V13.0.3.1.27.DEV;
  • versions closed beta: these were published 4 times a week and were characterized by a build number such as 22.4.27 (perhaps those who use the Xiaomi.eu ROM know them best.
miui says goodbye to closed beta

Back to bombshell, starting with Android 13, the third variant of the MIUI update will no longer be released. Every week, however, there will be public beta updates, which likely (not explicitly stated in the announcement) will be largely based on stable versions, as is currently the case for Android 12.

What changes then?

As we said in the introduction, nothing changes for those who use a “standard firmware"And therefore buys, has purchased or will purchase a Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO without changing its ROM (as it comes out of the package). Those who see changes will be developers only and perhaps the most accustomed to modding, who often have a closed beta firmware.
