MIUI +, the queen of the new functions of MIUI 12.5, will not be for everyone

With the advent of Xiaomi Mi 11 on the market, the company also presented the new MIUI 12.5 interface, a sort of bridge between the current MIUI 12 and the future version 13 which will arrive in the course of 2021. Some functions had already been leaked in recent days, like the new Super Wallpapers or the floating windows, but the new interface is now ready but it will not be for everyone. As usually happens with the release of a new and important software version of MIUI ROMs, some smartphones of the brand are cut out and in particular you can find the complete list of devices that will contribute to the update to MIUI 12.5 by clicking here.

Among the most interesting features introduced in MIUI 12.5 we find the one called MIUI +, a sort of desktop mode, which allows the use of the smartphone directly on a PC. First of all, let's clarify the fact that many, including us, have defined MIUI + as a desktop mode function, but in reality this seems to be more of a stream of the smartphone display. Another point to consider is that MIUI + only works on Windows computers and overall allows us to control our smartphone from the PC / Notebook.

The advantages of such an interface have a positive effect on office productivity, being able to open applications, receive notifications, share our notes, without having to physically take the smartphone in hand. Unfortunately, as trivial as these operations may seem, MIUI + will not be available to all brand devices but limited to a certain number of mobile devices, which specifically are:

  • Xiaomi Mi 11
  • Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10,
  • Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi 9
  • Redmi K30 Ultra, Redmi K20 Pro, Redmi K30 Pro.

It should be noted that the list includes only smartphones equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series processor. Yet the functionality as it was developed does not require a high computing load, but rather is based on a good wifi module and its connection between devices. This could really turn up their noses for many, because limiting long-awaited functionality to only the top of the range seems almost a move to define A series users from B series users.

We hope that the company will reconsider these decisions, otherwise, just as happened for the Super Wallpaper we just have to wait for some good modder who extrapolate the MIUI + code and allow it to be used on other smartphones as well. To be precise, MIUI + is still in beta and allows us not only to receive notifications on our computer, but also to run the applications we have installed on our smartphone from Windows.

Furthermore, the notes of our smartphone will be automatically shared with those of our computer, as well as the screenshots we take. To all this we can also transfer files between both devices thanks to the new MIUI + file manager. In short, MIUI + seems to be the first step for the desktop mode that we all hope for, a new integration between MIUI and Windows that for those like us who work practically every day in front of a computer will come in handy.

As already mentioned, the new utility is currently only available in beta version for the Chinese ROM of MIU 12.5, indeed the arrival of a Global version seems at the moment to go on for a long time, requiring more time than expected, unless we want focus on alternative ROMs such as the good and dear xiaomi.eu. Let's just hope that things do not overlap, because personally I have the feeling that MIUI 12.5 for the Global market will be officially released in conjunction with the launch of MIUI 12 for Chinese ROMs. And what do you think of this whole thing and the differentiation of functions for the devices? Don't you find that once everything was more beautiful, as we found ourselves with a ROM that matched both entry level and top of the range devices?

Going to the plus.miu.com site and activating the translator, you can read “CURRENTLY supported models” by Miui + BETA, therefore nothing prevents the list from being expanded.
