No more smartphones with Snapdragon 780G CPU: Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite's fault?

Let's be clear the title is rather provocative, we certainly do not want to blame the best-selling smartphone of the moment, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite but it is clear that the continuous change in the Android landscape requires the updating of the various components. In short, the time is over when apparently different devices were proposed to us but all equipped with the same processor, such as the glorious Snapdragon 625 that has been the protagonist on Xiaomi terminals for a very long time.

But what does all this have to do with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G SoC? In part nothing, because this processor will no longer be implemented on future smartphones, not because it is obsolete but for a rather unusual reason in this sector.

The reason is to be attributed solely to the lack of stock of this processor and this is where the Mi 11 Lite comes into play, which has literally "made a mess" of this chipset by virtue of an increasingly considerable demand for this terminal.

The Snapdragon 780G is a processor announced in March 2021, designed for the medium-high range of the market allowing 5G connectivity and a 144 Hz refresh rate, but with an attractive price, such as to be equipped on cheap mobile phones, just like that of Xiaomi. also helping in the photographic sector and in general performance, thanks to the help of artificial intelligence.

No more smartphones with Snapdragon 780G CPU: Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite's fault?

A perhaps unexpected success or perhaps simply a lack of open-mindedness on the part of Qualcomm, which now finds itself with a handful of specimens that do not meet the demand of all mobile phone OEMs.

But the risk does not only concern the future terminals that will never benefit from the Snapdragon 780G SoC but also for the Mi 11 Lite which could therefore end its life and its sales very soon precisely due to the limited stock in Qualcomm. The solution should come with the Snapdragon 778G processor which will act as a replacement for the 780G while waiting for the American company to make a decision on a possible re-production of the SoC.
