This news is likely to make all 5G conspiracy theorists mad. Oh yes, because without turning too much around Nokia has partnered with NASA to create a 4G network to be installed in space.
This connection will improve communication with satellites and the budget allocated for the construction of the 4G network in space is 14,1 million dollars.
Nokia and NASA together to build a 4G network on the Moon
In particular, the Moon will host the LTE infrastructure and could be switched in the future to the new 5G standard, which is slowly gaining ground all over the globe. In any case, this represents a milestone for the technology, which thanks to the first 4G spatial communication system will make it possible to cover greater distances than current standards, while at the same time being more reliable and faster.
The new communications network will be used on lunar rovers and spacecraft to send HD video. It will be a compact and efficient network that will withstand the harsh conditions of the Moon (temperatures, radiation and space vacuum).
Bell Labs, previously managed by AT&T, will work with Intuitive Machines to build this network. What we don't know is when 4G will arrive on the moon, given that NASA will not have its lunar base until the year 2028. In short, a small step for humans, a big step for mobile telephony.
