Official: OnePlus Watch will not have Wear OS but an RTOS

The news we've all been waiting for: OnePlus Watch's operating system won't be what we expected. Months ago the idea was feared that this could not be the smartwatch OS; after some time the confirmation that he would use it instead; then no, quite the opposite. Today finally comes the official confirmation from Pete Lau himself, who wrote a thread on the OP Community. Let's see what the CEO has communicated.

Pete Lau confirms: OnePlus Watch will not run on Wear OS but on a "new system". It is a RTOS ie real-time operating system o in real time

The official post written by Pete Lau is nothing more than a subtle confirmation of all specifications that we saw just today in preview. In short: on the smart features front, there's support for calls and notifications, music control, and the ability to control OnePlus TVs. There is 4GB of built-in storage, probably for playing offline music via Bluetooth headsets. OnePlus is bringing its technology Warp Charge on the watch, with a 20-minute charge that apparently provides a week of battery life.

But the really coolest thing is the OS. As anticipated it will not be the very common Wear OS but an RTOS. This acronym stands for "real-time operating system”And it is a seemingly simpler system than we expect. Before seeing what it is in detail, here is the statement by the CEO himself:

We have chosen to use a smart operating system developed on the basis of RTOS because we believe it provides a smooth and reliable experience while offering exceptional battery life, covering some of the biggest concerns we have heard from people looking to buy a smartwatch.

Basically, based on the feedback the company received, it was able to decide which operating system to use on its first smartwatch. This means really listening to users. But that aside, let's figure out what this RTOS is. A RTOS system it's a system where you have to get an answer within a set time. The answer does not need to be quick or not, the important thing is that it arrives within this predetermined amount of time.

We don't know any other details about this kind of system but we assume it's much leaner and snappier than Wear OS. We look forward to the day of the presentation to find out more.
