OnePlus 6 and 6T unfortunately will not receive OxygenOS 11, at least for now. This is a fact and until different communications, which we doubt will arrive, users can only count on modding. In fact there are several Custom ROMs that allow you to have Android 11 with OxygenOS 11 on these two devices: we have for example one PSP and reloaded OS. But if we wanted something really different, is it possible? Let's talk about an unprecedented operating system such as Linux. Apparently yes. Let's see the details.
On OnePlus 6 and 6T it will be possible to mount Linux, the alternative operating system that we are used to seeing on computers
The developer community has big plans in mind for this device. It is today one of the best OnePlus devices ever built and it is still very powerful. For some time the most capable (postmarket OS) have put on a project which will allow you to mount Linux on OnePlus 6 and 6T. It is working on porting of a kernel practically identical to what we are used to seeing on PC, only on smartphone.
As we see in the image, you can already see the first capabilities of the device: it was able to do open Twitter as per browser. However, it must be admitted that the project is very ambitious and more than difficult to complete. As expected, there are many hitches that have been found to date: various sensors, audio, camera, phone calls and mobile data are not working yet.
But the interesting thing is that the project includes a dual boot. In short, when you turn on the OnePlus 6 you can choose whether to launch Linux or Android, according to our needs This happens because the device has two useful slots that we can use. Samsung has already invested in similar initiatives with the new Galaxy devices that support Samsung Dex. If this project goes well, it could mean a lot for older devices. These would receive a unofficial support well beyond their official support period.
