The two smartphones have a AMOLED display from 6.55“, With the same resolution of 2400 x 1080 and a density of 402 pixels. However the newcomer can count on one LPTO type screen. It is a new generation technology that allows to create glasses with polycrystalline silicon oxide at low temperature. Basically this procedure is capable of improve the management of activated or deactivated pixels. This results in a high energy saving which translates into the possibility of manufacturers to integrate slightly smaller batteries. Another difference is in the refresh rate: 8 comes in at 90Hz while the 9 goes up to 120Hz. One of the users' requests was to integrate a flat display and the brand decided to please them: a step forward (for some) compared to the curved edges of the previous model.

In terms of performance, the comparison is short: OnePlus 9 is undoubtedly more powerful and responsive not only for the presence of the Snapdragon 888 (against the Snapdragon 865) but also for one RAM type L. OnePlus 8 can count on a flash memory type LPDDR4X. Internal storage also improves thanks to UFS 3.1 instead of 3.0. There are no differences in terms of the amount of memory, neither RAM nor ROM.

Il photographic sector is clearly better on OnePlus 9. We are not only talking about the quality of the optics, but also about the balance at the limit of perfection that has been achieved thanks to the collaboration with Hasselblad. We have talked a lot about this partnership, so let's not dwell on it. As for the optics, specifically we find both the main and the best wide-angle sensors on OnePlus 9 (respectively a Sony IMX689 48 megapixel and a Sony IMX766 50 megapixel camera). It seems that OnePlus has received relative feedback on the inclusion of a macro lens, which is practically useless. This has in fact been replaced with a sensor 2 megapixel monochrome.

The battery was increased from 4300 to 4500 mAh but not only the capacity. It switches to a charging power of 65w (against 30W). In the standard model it was finally added support for wireless charging, albeit with a maximum power of 15W. The terms of autonomy we cannot say that the new device will not behave better than the previous one: the LPTO screen will allow a lower consumption and also the static refresh rate at 1Hz when the screen is stationary it will guarantee excellent autonomy.

Conclusions

To update or not to update? In our opinion, yes, and that's what we'll probably do (I personally use a OnePlus 8). The prices are roughly in line with those of the old model at launch so higher quality at the same cost is synonymous with best buy.
