Oppo decided not to eat the dust and a few days afterofficial announcement of Xiaomi, she also decided to enter the world of cars. Probably electric, but we don't know it yet, the world of cars seems to be one of the points on which phone companies will focus more in the future. The news comes from an exclusive of 36Kr, an important Chinese newspaper. But what will the company be doing Chen Mingyong (CEO of the brand)? Let's go see the details.
Oppo is preparing to build a car like Xiaomi: the project does not yet exist but preventive research is starting
According to the Chinese source, Oppo is taking an interest in the car market. Similarly to Xiaomi, the president of the group that will take part in the construction of the first car will be the CEO himself Chen Mingyong. The news is learned from sources inside the company that would have confirmed to 36Kr that the project exists, but that has not yet been outlined. Specifically, in this first phase, Oppo would be investigating the resources to invest and on the talents to buy.
It is learned that in the past two weeks Chen Mingyong has met Zhu wei, Chairman of the China Passenger Car Division. In addition, Oppo's CEO himself also led a team to visit the China Automotive Research Institute. A source close to Chen Mingyong told 36Kr about building the car:
Oppo is actually investigating, understanding and doing pre-research, but has not yet formally established the project
The fact that the company is venturing into this sector was however announced. Under the advice of Qualcomm, the brand has been studying for some years technologies related to autonomous driving or the recognition of faces inside cars. Although Oppo and Xiaomi do not have as full experience in automobile manufacturing as traditional automakers do, they do have sufficient ideas, funds and inventory of AI chips for sourcing.

At the moment the Chinese company has not commented on the rumor, but we are sure that it will soon.
