OPPO announces the periscope lens of the future with hybrid optical zoom

Today, OPPO announced the launch of a new hybrid optical zoom technology, in order to offer consumers a sharp and lossless photographic experience. The technology uses a revolutionary step periscope zoom structure, with a large sensor and sophisticated imaging algorithms, to fully upgrade the performance and capture experience to the longest focal length; "What you see is what you get".

OPPO has decided to adopt a three-group periscope zoom lens. The 7-element lens combination offers better optical performance and image detail. The lens groups cooperate with each other to fix the focus. By relying on the flexible movement of the two lens groups, optical zoom is achieved at 85mm and 135mm equivalent focal lengths, with the optical capabilities of the lens being fully utilized at focal apertures of f / 3.3 and f / 4.4 . At the same time, the large sensor combines “Fusion” multi-focal image fusion technology, multi-shot field-of-view angle alignment technology and super-division algorithm. This allows us to obtain a focal length ranging from 85 mm to 280 mm.

OPPO's team of imaging engineers started from the ground up, rebuilding the imaging module architecture and designing a more versatile mid-telephoto imaging system, which includes a custom-designed, high-precision 16-bit driver IC. precise control of the movement of the two sets of lenses, relative autofocus and optical protection of the “Shake” module. In addition, thanks to the longer travel required for step zoom, the newly developed driver IC greatly improves the zoom accuracy and makes the image stable and clear.

The new hybrid optical zoom system then uses a large image sensor with an aspect ratio of 16:11, a maximum output of about 32 megapixels and supports four-in-one pixel technology, which not only allows us to achieve a high definition from both far and near, but also carries forward the development of wide-angle imaging technology.

In any case, during the research and development process, OPPO has always aimed at commercial standards, continuously adjusting and verifying the customization of the driver IC, the optimization of the lens material, the control of the dimensions of the components and much more. This is to avoid the typical reliability problems present in optical zooms.

Based on deep knowledge of user habits and experience in capturing images, OPPO's new hybrid optical zoom technology focuses on improving the shooting experience and image quality in the two medium and long focal lengths of 85 mm and 135 mm, regardless of the type of lighting present at that moment, when the camera is turned on you will have a faithful and accurate image capture.

Being two of the most used focal lengths in everyday life, those of 85mm and 135mm should meet the quality requirements in most of the scenarios that we will face. OPPO claims that at the optimized focal length of 85mm image noise can be controlled well, the edges of objects are sharp and true color can be restored even in low light, making the image more vivid. While the 135mm focal length enhances the “purity” of the image, it accurately shows details and enhances the sense of space, giving creators complete freedom in composing the photo.
