RatMilad is the new malware that steals data from your smartphone and listens to your conversations

We now know that among the negative things belonging to the Android operating system, we find the fact that they are often vulnerable to viruses and / or malware, which could, without our knowledge, also harm us in finances. Unfortunately, we have new bad news coming from the Zimperium company, which specializes in mobile security, which has discovered a new and dangerous malware called RatMilad.

This malware has the ability to steal data and record audio, becoming a means of obtaining information related to our privacy without the victims noticing. Zimperium warns users by stating the following:

"LIKE OTHER SPYWARE WE HAVE SEEN, DATA STOLEN FROM DEVICES CAN BE USED TO ACCESS PRIVATE BUSINESS SYSTEMS, BLACKMAIL USERS AND MUCH MORE."

Here's how RatMilad infects Android smartphones

The malicious software spreads via a fake virtual number generator used to activate social media accounts, the generator of which is called NumbRent. When the user proceeds with the installation of the application in question, risky authorizations are requested through which the RatMilad malware settles inside the system and then steals basic information about the device, MAC address, contacts directory, SMS, history calls, registered accounts, installed applications and their permissions, copied notes, geolocation, SIM details, list of archived files and their contents.

RatMilad is also able to delete files and, as written at the beginning, to activate the microphone to record audio without the user's knowledge. At the moment, the spread of the malware seems to concern only users living in the Middle East, but above all RatMilad does not seem to lurk within the Play Store, as the offending app is not present. In fact, the main distribution channel turns out to be Telegram.

People who got infected with the malware downloaded the NumbRent application from some Telegram groups. You should therefore not be afraid if you do not usually go into certain Telegram groups, but if instead you should be among the users who have installed this app, we recommend that you uninstall it immediately, download an antivirus and proceed with the analysis of your smartphone. We also recommend that you change all the passwords of the accounts you usually use from your smartphone.
