Samsung introduces UFS 4.0 memory - faster than the blink of an eye

After introducing the LPPDR5X RAM memory, Samsung yesterday introduced a new type of memory but this time it is storage memory. Basically, if he first brought the RAM to version 3.0, today he brought the hard disk of smartphones to version 4.0. Samsung UFS 4.0 is the name of the new module that promises enormous read and write speeds, even higher than those of the Xbox Series X. Let's go see the details.

Samsung UFS 4.0 is the new memory for mobile devices that promises enormous read and write speeds. On next year's flagships

The units in modern smartphones are already very fast, but, of course, they will be even faster. And today Samsung introduced nominally the next generation of flash memory: UFS 4.0. Nominally it means that the memory has not yet been produced but will arrive in a short time, possibly with next generation flagships. The company developed the Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 4.0 storage solution best performing in the industry, which has received JEDEC approval.

Working with smartphone and consumer device manufacturers around the world, he says he is actively working to build an ecosystem for UFS 4.0 to lead the market for high-performance mobile storage solutions. UFS 4.0 delivers speeds up to 23.2 Gbps per lane, twice as much as UFS 3.1. As a result, thanks to the improved seventh generation V-NAND memory and the proprietary controller, the new memory provides sequential read speeds up to 4200MB / s and write speeds of up to 2800MB / s. This is faster than the Xbox Series X SSD, even though it is far inferior to the PlayStation 5 unit.

Samsung also talks about improving energy efficiency. The new memory offers 6 MB / s at 1 mA, a 46% improvement over UFS 3.1. Furthermore, the company talks about the compactness of the solution. The size of the chip will be 11 x 13 x 1mm and the capacity will reach 1TB. Production of UFS 4.0 memory will begin in third quarter of this year. This means that the next generation of flagship smartphones will already be able to use that memory.
