Samsung: green light to Qualcomm for LPDDR5X memory

Samsung unveiled a few months ago a truly unique smartphone memory. These are the modules LPDDR5X, which guarantee a speed never seen before, about 1.5 times that of the previous model. Yesterday, the Korean giant gave the go-ahead to the US company Qualcomm to integrate the above modules on the flagship processors it will produce. We don't expect smartphones to arrive right away, but still in the 2022 we'll see something. That said, let's get on with the details.

Samsung has given the go-ahead to Qualcomm to use ultra-fast LPDDR5X memory in top-of-the-line processors. When will the smartphones be released?

Samsung announced compatibility of proprietary memory modules from 16 gigabits (LPDDR5X) with Qualcomm mobile platforms. The chip maker has approved South Korean brand products with low power consumption and a high data transfer rate for use in smartphones, server solutions and automotive electronics.

SAMSUNG RAM LPDDR5X FOR SMARTPHONE

Since last November, Samsung has been working with Qualcomm to optimize its 5 Gbps LPDDR7.5X memory for use with Snapdragon mobile platforms. According to the company, such modules are 1.2 times faster than current solutions based on LPDDR5 chip (6.4 Gb / s). New products should improve video recording performance ultra-high definition, as well as AI functions such as natural language processing in next generation smartphones, the image recognition and voice recognition.

Jinman Khan, Corporate Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics, said:

The successful validation of our LPDDR5X solution for Qualcomm Technologies Snapdragon mobile platforms is a testament to our leadership in DRAM technology. We expect applications for this low-power, high-performance memory to expand beyond smartphones to data centers, PCs and cars, enabling more devices and systems to run more efficiently.

To meet the growing demand for premium DRAM solutions, Samsung intends to continuously develop low-power products that offer higher performance and even greater capacity to support next-generation devices.
