Of oddities in the Xiaomi virtual store, aka Youpin, we have seen all sorts of them, but when what apparently seems futile actually hides a technological heart capable of saving our lives then the interest reaches the stars. This is precisely the case of the new devilry proposed in crowdfunding by Xiaomi, i.e. an apple-shaped pendant (no reference to Apple) with the name TotWoo, proposed in two colors such as red and face powder, at a price of 599 yuan (approximately 78 euros at the current exchange rate).
TotWoo, Xiaomi's apple-shaped pendant that can save your life
Undoubtedly, TotWoo is a device dedicated to the female world, so much so that Lei Jun's company advertises it as the perfect gift for the Spring Festival. In fact, the pendant at first represents a decoration jewel to hang on bags or even key rings, but in the heart of this smart apple we find a GPS chipset with China Telecom eSIM support. Everything is powered by a 130 mAh battery with performance up to 20 days, enclosed in weight of 18,5 grams with a certification of waterproof IPX5, but the extraordinary resides in the function offered by the gadget.
On one of the sides of the pendant there is a button with a small Swarovski crystal housed in it, which when pressed returns the GPS position to the various contacts that we have added to the list. Imagine being in a dangerous situation and wanting to be located by our friends / relatives: with TotWoo you just need to click a button that in addition to the GPS position will allow you to talk to the alerted person via a microphone built into the pendant.
Everything is managed by a smartphone companion app via Bluetooth 5.0 BLE connection to reduce battery consumption. But it doesn't end there, because TotWoo can also be used as a smartband, with monitoring of sports activity. An interesting and multi-functional gadget that could be vital in case of aggression or theft, or in case of discomfort. Unfortunately athe moment this pendant it can only be used in China as it is only compatible with China Telecom Internet bands.
