Qualcomm's “Triple Charge”: what it will be and how it will work

Let's face it: how many times did we need the full recharge of the smartphone before leaving home and instead we disconnected the plug before it ended? How much would we have done without buying a powerbank to carry around, if only our smartphone had the fastest recharge? Well, Qualcomm he does not sell dreams ...

What is the "Quick Charge"

We proceed one step at a time. Qualcomm from 2013 started to develop this technology, let's go over it together:

  • 2013: Quick Charge 1.0, with maximum voltage 6.3V and maximum power 10W;
  • 2015: Quick Charge 2.0, with voltage 5V, 9V and 12V and maximum power 18W;
  • 2016: Quick Charge 3.0, with maximum voltage 22V and maximum power 18W;
  • 2017: Quick Charge 4.0, with maximum voltage 20 V (via QC charger) and 9V (via USB-PD) and maximum power 18W (it was also rumored 28W)
  • 2017: Quick Charge 4.0 + with maximum voltage 9 V (via USB-PD) and 20V (via QC charger). For now we are aware of the support for this charge only for Mi8, Mi8 Pro, Mi8 EXplorer Edition, Mi A2 and Pocophone F1.

Currently therefore the QC 4.0 + is the fastest supported by Xiaomi devices and has a feature called "Dual Charge"Which essentially allows the power flow of cross two paths instead of one only. This increases the power of the charger to 18w and it also improves heat dissipation. All this translates, according to Qualcomm, into a charge of 50% in about 15 minutes.

At the recent summit "2018 Qualcomm 4G / 5G Summit", Of which we speak we have spoken to you , promising, the company announced the new preview of the fast-charge technology for smartphones, wireless or not, called "Triple Charge".

How the "Triple Charge" works

The American company will take another step forward with Triple Charge that, just as the name suggests, will add a third stream of current. Besides improve heat dissipation, this it will also increase the current output up to a "very modest" 32W of power, which means that the 2019 flagships will be set up to load faster than current ones.
The current output power of the QC4 cable will be increased from 20W to 32Wwhile charging power wireless will be increased from 12W to 15W. Exactly, this revolution will also concern wireless charging.
So if the data and dates provided by Qualcomm are true, then it means that from the Snapdragon 855 chipset onwards, all devices will support this charge and possibly also support wireless charging.

We just have to wait for the new year to make us give away, so to speak, so many joys from Qualcomm.
