TSMC introduces N4P, an enhancement of the best chip manufacturing processes

TSMC is in the center of the cyclone after announcing who are the culprits of the chip crisis. It must be said that the "fault" ofincrease in smartphone prices it's partly his. But having said that, he announced by poco a new production process halfway between 4nm and 3nm. What does it mean? It is simply that it has not yet been possible to fully achieve a 3nm production process. Let's go see the details together.

TSMC has taken half a step forward in the production cycle of processors: it therefore presents N4P, halfway between 4nm and 3nm. Here's what changes

TSMC, the world's leading chip maker, announced a new technological node. Called N4P, it represents the third level of improvement in 5 nm process technology (N5) and demonstrates higher performance and energy efficiency.

Compared to N5, the density of the transistors in the N4P node is increased by 6%. According to TSMC, as a result, the new processors will work the11% faster compared to chips made using the original 5nm technology and will outperform their N4 predecessors by 6%. In terms of efficiency energy, the introduction of the N4P la will increase by 22% compared to N5 technology.

According to TSMC, the expansion of the leading technology portfolio with the new level of N5 process technology will offer the company's customers a even more choice during the development of their products, depending on the intended purpose. This, in turn, will allow OEMs to "maximize their investment".

The release of N4P demonstrates TSMC's commitment to invest in the continuous improvement of manufacturing technologies. This manufacturing process has been designed to simplify product migration to the 5nm platform, which will provide our customers with faster and more energy efficient upgrades for their N5 products.

As for the release of semiconductors made using the 3 nm technology, TSMC announced a few months ago that he intends to postpone their release for now. Recall that the chipset A16 Bionic Apple will likely use an N4P node instead of the 3nm process.
