UMi Plus a scratch-proof screen

UMi head the scratch-resistant display of the UMi Plus

The evolution of display glass protectors began at Corning Inc. with Gorilla Glass. Much progress has been made since then. And, one of the biggest concerns when buying a smartphone is whether it will be resistant enough to scratches and accidental drops. Most displays are vulnerable to falls, at the bottom a glass remains a glass. The important thing is the scratch resistance. Even having the hardest glass is still fragile after a bad fall or a well-aimed blow, having a strong and sturdy backcover helps avoid collateral damage.

Device characteristics and testing

UMi claims to have paid close attention to the manufacturing process of the UMI Plus. Not only in terms of design features, but also in terms of impact resistance. The unibody back cover is in aluminum alloy, on which an anodic oxidation process has been made to ensure the best possible resistance in everyday situations. Furthermore, a sandblasting process was carried out, both inside and outside the backcover. This is to refine the profile and to give the shiny effect. But what about the display? The screen is a 5,5 inch Full HD made by Sharp with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The front glass is 2.5D edge type with Gorilla Glass 3 technology. But now let's move on to the resistance test.

A video test released by the company reveals that the display of the UMI Plus can safely take the blows given using work tools such as the drill. As you can see, the UMI Plus survived all the torture it did in the test, and still no scratches are visible on its display. The test started with a screwdriver, then moved on to using spanners, saws and finally a drill was used to try to do more damage. I advise you not not to imitate the protagonist of the video.
